The Guernsey Cattle Society
The Guernsey Cattle Society of Australia meets once a year at a Royal Show for the Annual General Meeting and Federal Council. It is rotated between each state. Meetings of sub-committees are usually held at the same time. Federal Council is comprised of two delegate from each state.
The Guernsey Cattle Society has a Type Committee, Sire Proving Committee and a Youth Committee.
Type Committee
The Type Committee looks at the following and makes recommendations to Federal Council:
- The Type and style of Guernsey cow needed for Australia
- Classification
- Star Brood Cow Awards
- Superior Total Performance Awards
- Excellent cows
- Workability traits and proofs for cows for type as well as production
- Photographic Competitions
- List of 2017 Results.
Bull Proving Committee
The Bull Proving Committee looks at suitable sires for entry into the Sire Proving Scheme:
- They look for high production with good indexes
- A VG or better dam
- A depth of pedigree for 3 generations
- A sire that is suitable as a sire of sons.
Youth Committee
The Youth Committee tries to encourage our youth through inviting them to participate in shows and other activities such as learning camps, and on farm visits and work experience.
